JioTV, was launched in 2016 by LYF’s digital division (Jio), LYF Digital Convergence Limited. JioTV, is a TV streaming service that offers consumers live TV and additional content on their mobile phones, tablets, laptops, desktops, entertainment set-top boxes and connected TVs.

The web version of JioTV launched in December 2017 but was shut down two days later due to some technical litigation.

Content Partners

JioTV has partnered with various broadcasters such as Viacom18, Sony, Zee, NDTV, Times Now, TV Today Network, Turner, ABP News Network, and Discovery Network to provide content in various categories such as “This is Business”, Education, entertainment, infotainment, kids, news and sports. JioTV has 17 “Jio Darshan” channels that broadcast events from several Indian temples.

JioTV has 32 public educational channels sponsored by the Ministry of Human Resources Development under Swayama Prabha.

In June 2020, JioTV signed an agreement with the government of Assam to host the educational channel Gyan Barkshya. and Telangana is partnering with state governments to broadcast educational channels for e-classrooms.


Reliance’s JioTV has been one of the most popular streaming apps in India with a staggering 84 million unique visitors in March 2020, up from 74 million unique visitors in March last year. The company is owned by Jio Platforms, the digital services business of the multinational group Reliance Industries Limited.

According to Kalagto’s report on the OTT space, JioTV had about 18% active users in 2018, followed by Hotstar with 40% active users. In terms of national coverage, Hotstar and JioTV had 30% and 24% of the market, respectively.

JioTV recorded 74.5 million unique visitors in March 2019, up from 31.2 million unique visitors in March last year.
